Becoming Kings

Becoming Kings Podcast is for any man pursuing greater abundance and fulfillment in life, especially when he knows he’s not living up to his greatest potential. “What does it take to be powerful, purpose-driven and fulfilled?” It means becoming a King. It means doing the difficult work of breaking down the old masculine paradigms and becoming whole, healthy, and trustworthy. In order for men to move into this King energy, they need a guide. A way out of the old ways of being a man of oppression, repression, and aggression and instead, walking a path toward becoming a King; a man of strength, clarity, and fulfillment. This podcast is that guide and it starts here!

Are You Being Truly Authentic?

Consistency counts

Getting out of town is always good for perspective. I’ve left Denver for the week to go visit family and friends in St. Louis, and something profound occurred to me.

The “Nice Guy” in me is acting out more than usual.

When pressured to go and spend time with people who I feel obligated to hang out with, despite my not really wanting to, I start coming up with reasons to give in. It’s a temptation to fall back into old behaviors.

Shaming myself into hanging out with people who haven’t made time to see me previously is skewing my own perception of my persona. It’s a fundamentally different man I know myself to be than when I’m in Denver.

On this episode, I dissect how we can be consistent with our authentic selves. Not feeling ashamed, feeling truly apologetic, or being genuinely thankful, are all nuances that determine the role authenticity plays in our day to day experience

In this episode you’ll learn about…

  • Anchors & triggers. (0:46)
  • Becoming Kings book support. (5:24)
  • Pushups for apologizing. (9:16)
  • So what if they don’t like you. (12:50)
  • Challenge yourself to be in integrity. (14:55)

Embodying True Change with Rob Scott

Waking up as a different, better person each day

We are whatever we are in the moment. However, when you feel stuck, what is the most beneficial way you can grow and change into someone else?

That’s what Rob Scott is interested in. You’re one person today, and yet tomorrow you might be another one entirely. The problem he finds others attempting to solve is how they can become another better, different version of themselves in a healthy, beneficial way.

Our own perceptions of ourselves are often linear. There is no need to be “stuck in our ways” and continuing downward spirals toward eventual oblivion. Not only are you capable of change, you already are evolving every day, whether you’re aware of it or not. Improving your circumstances just requires the belief and perception that you are capable of doing so daily.

Understanding yourself is the foundation of growth and true change. Join Rob and I for our intellectual deep dive into psychology, perception vs progress, and legacies.

In this episode you’ll learn about…

  • Embodying true change. (3:28)
  • The four dimensions of the mind & ego. (17:23)
  • The deep importance of attention. (33:59)
  • The “self” judges good vs bad over “time”. (49:08)
  • Perception vs progress. (1:04:17)
  • What is more valuable than legacy. (1:15:09)

Is Busyness Bad?

Intentionality is always top of mind

Recently it’s been difficult for me to find any moment to relax. From my businesses, to my coaching, to enrolling in leadership programs, it’s one of those times in my life where it’s hard to take a moment to breathe.

This presents an interesting question. How much of my pursuit of moving my life and business forward is taking away from my own personal development? Simultaneously, feeling accomplished in completing these tasks is replacing my bad habits of loneliness, sadness, and apathy.

How does pulling the wool over our eyes in the name of progress hold us back? Intentionality is paramount to growth, and it’s necessary to keep it top of mind as we navigate the busiest times of our lives.

In this episode you’ll learn about…

  • Ask a busy person. (0:47)
  • Questioning busyness & distraction. (4:47)
  • Investing your own growth. (9:00)
  • Where is the balance? (12:44)
  • Intentionality. (15:26)

How Repression Leads to Depression

Avoiding the slippery slope

As men, we’re taught that the stoic, non-emotional men in our lives are the ones at the top of the food chain. Those who are vulnerable, and in tune with their emotions, are perceived as being weak, or incapable of leadership.

However, emotional release can be tough to navigate.

Emotional recycling only leads to judgment, shame, or guilt, and is rooted in criticism. When we release our emotions instead of recycling, we do so through the lens of compassion, empathy, and love.

On this episode, I discuss both the pitfalls and healthy ways to process our emotions, and why it’s so important to be open and honest with our feelings.

In this episode you’ll learn about…

  • Love / Hate. (0:46)
  • Overt vs covert repression. (3:43)
  • Do you have a mindfulness practice? (7:30)
  • Emotional recycling vs release. (10:45)
  • What’s under the anger? (14:07)

Nothing Is More Important Than This

It’s got to start with you.

If you want to awaken all of humanity, then awaken all of yourself.

If you want to eliminate the suffering in the world, then eliminate all that is dark and negative in yourself.

Truly the greatest gift that you have to give is that of your own self-transformation.

– Lao Tzu

So often we focus on supporting others that we forget to take care of ourselves. To experience all life is offering to you, you’ve got to take care of yourself first. It’s easy to do a lot of sh*t. It’s less easy to show up and be, to slow down and experience each moment in that moment.

It starts with saying, “I’m willing to go in and do the work.”

It’s got to start with you. In this episode, I share one of the best questions I’ve been asked recently and what event started me on this self-transformational journey.

In this episode you’ll learn about…

  • Lao Tzu. (0:46)
  • Does business = happiness? (3:46)
  • Don’t rob the world of your greatness. (6:40)
  • The Arena of your own mind. (9:05)
  • The journey to self-transportation. (11:14)

Crossing The Threshold

The Leap of Faith isn’t so scary

You can tie yourself into a knot over anything if you analyze it closely enough. Vigorous analysis  can often lead to new and intellectually stimulating ideas, however it can also come at a cost.

Recently while pondering my own business and growing my brand, a quandary crossed my mind that I hadn’t thought of before. If I get to the place that I want to go, and my business is thriving, will it only lead to me ignoring the things that really matter? Will my relationships with those I love most fall by the wayside in exchange for personal and professional success?

That type of thinking can only lead to second-guessing everything, including your own life’s work and purpose. This episode of the podcast is dedicated to not only stopping those limiting beliefs, it’s also about how we look past them and take our leaps of faith without our minds jumping to the worst possible outcome.

In this episode you’ll learn about…

  • Wise words. (0:51)
  • Just do it! (3:41)
  • Window shopping or store shopping. (6:46)
  • Are you shackled to your limiting..

Mastering Resilience and Grit with Mike Aidala

Focus on breaking your limits, one rep at a time

Finding your center is the key to unlocking strength you were not even sure you were capable of. Finite and concentrated focus can lead to breakthroughs that are scarcely beyond belief.

Mike Aidala is the perfect example of how that mindset yields unimaginable results.

Mike is curious. He’s always thinking of what his limits are and how he can surpass them. His recent world-record breaking Turkish Get Up achievement is just one example of his expert level of resolve and focus. Minute after minute, hour after hour, day after day, he lifted a kettlebell above his head, stood up, sat down, and did it all over again.

His world record is just one highlight of his catalog of achievements, and Mike has been helping other men push their limits and improve their focus for over 15 years. He’ll be doing just that as our featured speaker at March’s Meeting of Men on Monday, the 28th.

The question he always comes back to is this. How can I build more confidence, self-esteem, or develop a deeper relationship with myself? The answer is action. Breaking your preconceived limit is an act, not just a mindset. On this epic episode of Becoming Kings, Mike and I explore every facet of focus, grit, and resilience.

In this episode you’ll learn about…

  • Always up for epic shit! (1:38)
  • What IS the Turkish Get Up? (11:47)
  • Embracing communication for change. (23:09)
  • You’ve got to start with yourself. (33:31)

How To Keep Things Spicy!

Reigniting the lost spark

One of the maxims our society takes as truth is that the romantic flame between partners eventually has to go out. I’m telling you right now that it does not have to be that way.

Keeping that flame alive does not have to be accomplished through grand gestures or commitments to changing who you fundamentally are. You can keep your relationship fun and exciting by finding joy in the little things, especially everyday conversation. Flirting was the basis of how you began your attraction to your partner, and returning to it even just a little bit can play a big part in keeping things fresh between you and your best friend.

How do we focus on the little things in everyday conversation and help us reignite our love life? On this episode of Becoming Kings, we’ll discuss how humor, flirting, and having a thick skin resist the old adage that our romantic flames have to inevitably go out.

In this episode you’ll learn about…

  • Should relationships fizzle out? (0:46)
  • Thin vs thick skin. (3:57)
  • Don’t over use this spice! (6:53)
  • Bland vs Spicy. (9:43)
  • Looking for opportunities to tease. (11:50)

The Simple Meaning of Life

Enjoying the passage of time

Oftentimes as human beings we believe that once we accomplish something, heal, or achieve something that our life will fundamentally change.

However, that belief often reinforces a deeper feeling that you are somehow lacking. You’ll end up inevitably spinning your wheels and constantly chasing a feeling that makes you feel less than what you really are. Starting from a place of abundance, with the perspective that you are capable of great things, is an infinitely healthier way to perceive ourselves.

On this episode of Becoming Kings, we stop selling ourselves short and start shifting our perspectives to abundance. The real meaning of life is to enjoy the passage of time, and we’ll discuss the methods associated with doing so.

In this episode you’ll learn about…

  • Meaning of Life in 5 Words. (0:48)
  • Getting caught up in a false narrative. (2:39)
  • Reacting or responding to feedback. (6:30)
  • Googling for what you want. (9:52)
  • Changing your sense of self and identity. (12:34)
