Becoming Kings
Becoming Kings Podcast is for any man pursuing greater abundance and fulfillment in life, especially when he knows he’s not living up to his greatest potential. “What does it take to be powerful, purpose-driven and fulfilled?” It means becoming a King. It means doing the difficult work of breaking down the old masculine paradigms and becoming whole, healthy, and trustworthy. In order for men to move into this King energy, they need a guide. A way out of the old ways of being a man of oppression, repression, and aggression and instead, walking a path toward becoming a King; a man of strength, clarity, and fulfillment. This podcast is that guide and it starts here!
The Five Types of Relationships
Understanding the dynamics you have with others.
Even though my past relationships have been failures, I’ve learned a lot from them. Odds are you’ve also had your fair share of (romantic or platonic) relationships tank and blow up… Yet have you stopped to wonder why?
Knowing what you two had can be very telling about what your needs were, while also helping you figure out which type of relationship works best for you.
And while the “perfect” relationship may not exist—people are messy—it’s possible to get close to it when you know a lot more about yourself, what you’re looking for, and why you’re looking for it.
Many of my relationships were fueled by my parental wounds, yet it wasn’t until I started addressing them that I found some release from the same dating patterns I’d established to cover those up.
This is why I’m bringing you the wise counsel of Christine Hassler (my coach) and her husband Stef. Check out this episode of the Becoming Kings Podcast to learn about your relationship dynamics and how to improve them.
In this episode you’ll learn about…

Being Conscious vs Unconscious in Life with John Fuller
Achieving the lives we wished we lived.
All too often, our lives are lived mostly unconscious. We’re not asleep, rather we struggle to understand what our roles are and how powerful we can be.
By living “unconsciously” we forfeit some of the control and influence we can have to make life into what we want it to be.
My friend Jon Fuller is a transformational coach dedicated to helping people discover how they fit into their own lives, while supporting them in the growth they need to change it for the better.
Because of the world we live in, much of our time is spent paying attention to everything other than ourselves and our needs. We’re encouraged to focus on accumulating stuff to essentially fill up lives that could be filled with incredible experiences and lasting fulfillment.
Instead, we often find ourselves chasing the fleeting, living into reactivity. The thing about Jon is, he doesn’t want people to live this way. And he’s stopped by the Becoming Kings Podcast to teach us how to take back control, and stop wishing things were different.
In this episode you’ll learn about…
- Living a conscious or unconscious life. (1:43)
- Balance between abundance & scarcity. (9:27)
- Mustang…what? (18:48)
- Let go and see what’s possible! (27:39)
- What if there’s nothing to fix? (37:00)
- We are not stagnant, we are always shifting. (44:54)
- With greater bandwidth comes the need for consciousness. (52:17)

The Three Kingdoms of Life Mastery
Your Kingdom is like a giant Venn diagram…
After more than a decade of working with men, I’ve got a pretty strong theory of how growth works. And the work we need to do as men, it’s actually fairly straightforward if you’re willing to dive in.
We’ve spoken a lot about mental and emotional work on the podcast, which are really just the first steps to becoming the king of your kingdom. Where the next step of work comes in, is with the theory of kingship or as I like to call it:
“The Three Kingdoms of Life Mastery.”
These are three distinct areas we each need to master to thrive in our lives. You CAN have tremendous development without mastering these, however you’ll only experience who you want to be when you dig in and fight for control over them.
Of course, the question is how. Actually…We need to start with what they are, and why they’re important for life mastery. Then we can get to how they help you become the kind of your life.
In this episode of the Becoming Kings Podcast, you’re going to get a crash course in balancing your kingdoms, find out what they are, and why they’re basically one big Venn diagram.
In this episode you’ll learn about…
- Keep It Simple Stupid. (0:50)
- The goal is seeking dominion over 3 kingdoms. (4:36)
- Your Outer Kingdom. (8:58)
- Your legacy & your gifts. (13:28)
- Your Eternal Kingdom. (18:25)
- The Kingdoms Reviewed. (22:01)

Breakdowns Precede Breakthroughs
Step into challenges.
Sometimes we need to throw ourselves into the thick of it and force ourselves to have the tough conversations we so often avoid.
Why should we step up and face the pain, anger, and sadness? Well, friend, it has a little something to do with finding our path to healing. Think about it for a moment:
When we have a surplus of intense emotion, we tend to want to contain it, and it forces us to harbor those feelings for as long as we can. They don’t feel good so letting them out would also not be good… Right?
Unfortunately, we can’t just make all those feelings go away, and the longer we hang onto them, the more they affect every aspect of our lives. More importantly, they keep us from being vulnerable and sharing the burden with others.
Which is actually what I wanted to chat with you about today:
Allowing the breakdown to happen with people you trust so you can both grow as people. So, if you’ve been looking for insight into the inner workings of our emotional minds, then you won’t want to miss this episode of the Becoming Kings Podcast.
In this episode you’ll learn about…
- Walking the Talk. (0:54)
- Working through the resentment. (4:57)
- The heart of an angel. (8:45)
- Stop getting and start giving. (12:16)
- Do emotions hinder or help? (15:47)
- Pick up the phone and have that conversation. (18:56)

Holding On and Letting Go with Sam Gibbs Morris
Healing from hyper-vigilance.
Uncertainty, anger, anxiety, paranoia… These all come from being raised to fear. And for Sam, he had no choice. Being allergic to almost everything forced him into a state of constant evaluation of his surroundings.
Unfortunately, it led him down a dark path, eventually bringing him to an ultimatum: self-destruct or rise above a life of fear.
This change proved to be an immense challenge, because it wasn’t just treating feelings or a mindset. The foundation of his existence was built on needing to be scared because his life was constantly threatened by the state of his health.
And we all know that physiological reactions are some of the hardest to overcome—even when you have the tools to cope, treat, and avoid stimuli.
In talking with Sam, it’s so clear that he operates on another level. His clarity of mind and mission has been won from the fires of intense trial. I can’t wait for you to dive in and listen to his story because it’s not only harrowing, it’s deeply inspiring.
This time on the Becoming Kings Podcast, I bring you Sam Gibbs Morris.
In this episode you’ll learn about…
- Sam’s backstory of evolution. (1:35)
- The difference between vigilance and observance. (8:27)
- Dealing with anger. (17:18)
- Energetic cords. (26:42)
- The expectation of being saved. (35:40)
- The story of Sam’s body art. (44:49)
- The bufo ceremony. (53:05)

The Symbolism Behind the Becoming Kings Logo
Getting beyond crowns and lions.
Going through the new logo redesign process was a bear. Maybe a tiger? Definitely NOT a lion.
All I wanted was for there NOT to be a lion.
And somehow, I got lions. And crowns. And BKs. Literally every single image I asked the batch of logo artists to avoid. I was starting to think someone was trying to send a message about the brand….
So I started looking further into what represented the brand.
I’ve always enjoyed history’s warriors with their unique fighting tactics and cultures. So when I followed that rabbit trail, I landed on vikings. Specifically, an ancient viking symbol that piqued my interest.
Through this entire process it taught me that it’s not just about the symbols, it’s about what the symbols elicit from people. Imagine if I’d gone with a lion or crown. You’d feel a lot different about the brand, because it’s pinned up by clichés.
Maybe they make you think I’m self-absorbed or some high-and-mighty alpha male type. I chose the valknut for a very specific reason, and it’s one you’ll discover when you listen to today’s episode of the Becoming Kings Podcast.
In this episode you’ll learn about…
- Looking for a symbol. (1:18)
- What’s truly important? (3:46)
- The “Valknut.” (6:42)
- The Germanic People & Vikings. (9:13)
- Inverting the “Valknut” into a crown. (12:02)
- Lions wearing crowns. (14:31)

Isn’t That Interesting?
Understanding what it means to be a man.
What does it take to be a man in this day and age? It can often feel like there’s no real roadmap… Mainly because many of our fathers are also confused about what manhood is supposed to look like.
And because of this, it’s really up to us to find a way to break that cycle. The consequences are too great—the cycle will likely continue with our own sons.
In many ways this is my mission, and the mission of the Becoming Kings Podcast: to help men discover the roadmap of thriving manhood.
That’s why today, we’re taking a look at my upcoming book, “Becoming Kings,” which is finally complete.
I can’t wait to release it, and since it still needs to complete the publishing process, I thought I’d read you just the first chapter in this episode. In the chapter I unpack the life-altering story of losing a good friend on a remote hike.
Through examining his story and life, we can learn many lessons from his incredible example and leadership. Check out this episode and be the first to experience the first chapter of “Becoming Kings.”
In this episode you’ll learn about…
- Becoming Kings the book. (1:38)
- Life turned upside down. (5:56)
- The Death of a King. (10:10)
- Scott was a King. (15:54)
- Was this my fault? (21:16)
- The decisions we make. (26:53)

Humility That Comes With Growth with Adrian Eimerl
Gain the strength to put yourself out there.
Some of us feel stagefright on an existential level. Becoming perpetually scared of what people think of us is a fast track to remaining totally trapped where you are.
It does more than that though, it halts meaningful growth… And when faced with hard challenges, that fear can cripple us.
Adrian Eimerl, my guest on this episode, had to come to grips with this lesson before it drove him into a self-destructive corner. When all the cards were down on the table, he found the strength to move forward because of the support of others.
In fact, it’s often rare that someone learns to walk with humility and steep themselves in growth without others to show them the way. Friends, family, and even associates not only show us paths we can take to heal, they help us overcome the ego.
The ego is what ultimately holds us back, protecting itself from becoming uncomfortable, or even hurt. And letting it go, embracing growth, while also putting yourself out there, is a recipe for achievement.
Learn how with Adrian and I in the latest episode of the Becoming Kings Podcast.
In this episode you’ll learn about…
- Conversations of men. (1:20)
- “Kastanza” spins the vinyl. (9:06)

How to Improve Your Self-Confidence
Is there a difference between confidence and false-confidence?
Recently, my girlfriend, her son, and I went to a waterpark. It was a great day to get outside and soak up some rays with the people I love to spend quality time with.
J.J. and I get each other. We’re both fairly “guy’s guy” when it comes to matters of appearing strong on the outside. Doesn’t matter if you’re a young boy or a grown man…
We tend to size up challenges without realizing what it takes to conquer them. This time, the challenge was an enormous water slide with a plunging drop. As we’re walking up, he tells me there’s no difference between confidence and self-confidence.
Interesting right?
We took the opportunity to put his theory to the test. If you want to find out the key to mastering confidence, and figure out what happened when we finally ascended to the top of that monstrous water slide, you’ll have to jump in and listen to the episode!
In this episode you’ll learn about…
- Rewinding the clock to third grade. (0:53)
- Confident vs Cocky. (4:52)
- Confidence vs Fake Confidence. (7:27)
- Dealing with the unknown. (12:30)

The Johnny King Show is the Becoming Kings Podcast
Putting on a new coat of paint.
It was time for a soft-reset.
A few months ago, I realized that The Johnny King Show wasn’t as aligned with the mission I had in my mind. It was one of those things that seemed to be more about me instead of the listener (on the surface at least).
Anyone who has been a listener for a while knows that this podcast is for any man who wants to become more than who he is today. That’s why I took a bold step forward and rethought the presentation of the show.
As of today, The Johnny King Show is a part of the Becoming Kings Podcast’s legacy. Same feed, 200 episodes and counting… Nothing is stopping! So if you’re with me, it’s time to drive forward.
This episode is a sort of “re-pilot.” We’re going to dive deeper into why it’s called Becoming KingsPodcast, discuss my upcoming book, and set the stage for what you can expect for the future.
In this episode you’ll learn about…
- Hitting the road with a new look & sound. (0:45)
- Our sole responsibility as men. (4:16)
- Being awoken… (7:22)
