When Nature Calls
Throwing down a challenge
Have you ever noticed how staying in the city versus being in nature can affect your mindset? In the city, there’s all the noise, people, and general sensory overload. It’s unlikely you’re able to go to a place with no people and feel completely zen.
When you’re in nature, even with some friends, it’s totally different. There are scientific studies regarding boosts in memory, cognitive flexibility, and creativity, all while people are in nature. While those located in urban areas didn’t receive the same increase in metrics.
In today’s episode of the Becoming Kings Podcast, I throw down a challenge for you to complete this weekend and within the coming weeks. I urge you to take an hour out of your day to experience the benefits of this challenge. Tune in to accept your challenge.

Understanding Trauma with Andrew Lynn
Your personal narrative affects everything.
How you talk to yourself and see your past experiences affect every moment moving forward. It may be obvious that this is true; however, many men carry unreconciled trauma hidden in their personal narratives. Even if they accept this truth, they won’t process the trauma of their past because of the way it’s perceived.
I’ve dealt with a feeling of shame because my childhood wasn’t as bad as others. Yet that doesn’t mean my (or your) childhood didn’t leave emotional baggage. Learning to define and understand trauma has brought so much clarity to how it’s affected my life. Once you begin processing trauma, you’ll find the leaks of anger, depression, and anxiety start to fade away.
In this episode of the Becoming Kings Podcast, Andrew Lynn and I sit down to do a masterclass on trauma, fixing the narratives you tell yourself and the solutions to releasing emotions. Andrew and I share trauma symptoms, why the brain creates it in the first place, and the secret to processing it.
In this episode you’ll learn about…
- Diagnosed with depression & anxiety. (2:08)
- Developmental trauma. (12:37)
- Unexpressed emotion. (23:51)
- Inner parent your wounded child. (34:29)
- Doing more for others than we do for ourselves. (43:44)
- Witnessing yourself releasing trauma. (49:30)

Are you often defensive when others encroach on how you live, your health, or your mindset? Through introspection, you’ll find answers you weren’t even looking for. And by finding solutions you weren’t expecting, you’ll move closer to resolving issues of your past and move forward into the future.
In today’s episode of the Becoming Kings Podcast, I share some of the tricks I use to handle unsolicited advice and how to control defensiveness towards others. I continue to find it astonishing how others are able to see the blind spots in our own lives.
In this episode you’ll learn about…

What IS Trauma?
Focus on understanding the problem, not the solution
Many of us like to focus on solutions, hacks, and tricks to fix our problems. However, when we look deeper to understand the problem, the solution will often reveal itself.
The way your brain deals with the three types of trauma is similar to a dam. The experience happens, and as a result, your brain blockades the flowing water. Over time, leaks are bound to happen, and your dam will succumb to the rushing water and gravity. It’s inevitable without proper care.
In today’s episode of the Becoming Kings Podcast, I share everything I know about trauma – the three types, how trauma is actually formed, and the best way to approach healing. It’s never too late to deal with unsound childhood experiences, and in this episode, I discuss how.
In this episode you’ll learn about…
- Trauma informed coaching. (0:46)
- Dysregulated nervous system. (4:40)
- 3 categories of trauma. (8:46)
- There’s no more important work than this. (12:11)
- Relationship ultimatums. (15:11)

This is the time. This is the place. I am the person.
There are always two sides to the coin
The more time passes the more I realize how much of life is a double-edged sword. A higher sense of urgency to take action and put in the work weighs on me. However, on the other hand, there’s an ongoing appreciation for having so little time in this life.

In today’s episode of the Becoming Kings Podcast, I share one of the techniques I’ve used for ten-plus years to continue finding improvement and motivation. I also touch on some areas in life where there are two sides to the same coin, sharing some of the insights I’ve learned.

Investing For Time Freedom
The three types of freedom
There are three types of freedom: financial, time, and self-expression.
Financial freedom is the point at which you don’t fret about money. You can buy most of the things you want without worrying about your next paycheck. Time freedom revolves around your ability to do the things you want when you want while remaining financially free.
The final pillar of freedom is self-expression which encompasses financial and time freedom, yet adds your ability to be creative, and free of stress.
Time management is a critical component of freedom, and it’s something that I’ve been working on these past few months. When we’re so busy and caught up in the moment, it’s difficult to reflect on everything that’s happening.
In this episode of the Becoming Kings Podcast, I share the best technique for achieving time freedom since it’s something that I just applied this past week. When you have your essential expenses covered, you hold the least amount of risk.
In this episode you’ll learn about…
- Check this out! (0:46)
- Sometimes belief comes slowly. (5:04)
- Mitigating risk. (9:58)
- Low expenses, high income. (14:38)
- Over-leveraging asset classes. (19:16)

Late Nights & Candle Light with Shawn Brown
Storytelling is the universal language
Powerful storytelling holds an integral role within the human experience. Whether it’s entrepreneurship, dating, or friendship, stories are how we share and understand each other’s experiences. In a way, storytelling is an avenue for building trust and comfort. It’s how we observe commonalities among ourselves and other people. And all of us end up leaning towards comfort one way or another.
Except leaning towards comfort in other aspects of life can be detrimental. Shawn Brown shares insights as to why escaping your comfort zone is vital. When you’re completing unorthodox, extremely challenging tasks, you end up growing and adapting. And that growth is how you continuously improve yourself, get more fit, and come closer to becoming a King.
In today’s episode of the Becoming Kings Podcast, Shawn and I sit down and discuss some foundational stories from when we went to school together and the lessons we’ve learned. In addition, we share some of our favorite content, how Tom Brady can perform at such an age, and our thoughts on the current school system.
